This Cypress home needed a full staircase upgrade — not just new treads on top of old carpet, but a proper rebuild from the framing up. The stairs sit in an open two-story entry with square columns on both sides, so the bottom step had to be custom-built on site to wrap cleanly around the column and follow the wall line. That starter landing is one of the harder parts of stair work, and the photos show the framing, blocking, and miter cuts that went into getting those angles right before any finish wood went down.
Every tread is solid Red Oak, stained Black Coffee so the grain still reads through the dark color. The risers are maple, painted crisp white for a clean contrast against the dark steps. The existing white balusters were kept in place, and the handrail was refinished in the same Black Coffee stain as the treads so the whole run matches. Treads were glued down with precision-fit cuts — no nail holes on the walking surface — and after the stain dried completely, a glossy topcoat went on to protect the finish from daily foot traffic and give the wood that reflective look you can see in the completed photos.
For homeowners in the Houston area, especially Cypress and nearby neighborhoods, this kind of stair remodel makes a real difference in how the entry feels. Dark treads with white risers hold up well visually, the solid wood feels substantial underfoot, and the glossy finish is easier to wipe down than old carpet ever was. The finished staircase ties into the existing tile floor, chair rail trim, and neutral wall color without looking like an add-on — it reads like it belongs in the house.
We had carpet on our stairs for years and they always looked tired no matter how much we cleaned them. Robert and his crew tore everything out and basically rebuilt the bottom section so the first step wraps around our column the way it should. The dark oak treads with the white risers changed the whole look of our entry — and I love that you can actually see the wood grain through the stain. No squeaky nails on the treads either; everything was glued down tight. What really impressed my husband and me was that Robert refused to use caulking. He said if the cuts are right, you shouldn't need it — and he was right. Every joint is tight and clean, and nothing looks patched or filled in. They were careful about letting the stain dry before putting the glossy coat on, and you can tell when you walk on them. If you need stair work done in Cypress, these guys know what they're doing. Worth every penny.
